Dr. Walters and Felice Hybert met with the staff of the University of Illinois Chicago Library this week to discuss the District vision for the Student Success Center and the goal of increasing library services for all children.
The University of Illinois Chicago librarians included: Annie Armstrong, Associate Professor- Coordinator of Teaching and Learning Services, Paula Dempsey, Associate Professor - Research Services and Head Librarian - Information Services and Research Interim Head.
The University of Illinois Chicago Library staff shared an article titled:21st-Century Libraries: The Learning Commons as well as a reference to the following Ted Talk entitled Library Fines to continue to guide the District in our work.
The meeting was to discuss District needs and a potential partnership with consulting for Kankakee High School. The staff stated, they will get back to us next week as they reach out to their network including University of Chicago librarians.
The District will continue planning over the next few months with a goal of recommending any needed position(s) to the Board of Education to post by June 1, 2022.
The plan would start to be implemented during Summer Learning and be fully implemented at Kankakee High School for the 22-23 school year.
The District is fully committed to increasing access to library services for all children.
