Service in the Self-Contained tier consists of one self-contained combined 3rd/4th grade class and one self-contained combined 5th/6th grade class.. Each of these classes has no more than fourteen students from either grade level (class maximum of 28). These students are drawn from those identified by screening for the gifted program. Resources
Dual Enrollment – KCC, ONU, and Other Programs
Students participating in Dual Enrollment (Early College or Early Scholars) must stay enrolled in at least 4 college courses (12 credit hours) and maintain a college GPA of 2.5 or higher. Weekly check-ins with a KHS counselor/teacher are mandatory, and students must share grade updates at each meeting.
If a student earns below a “C” in any class, they are required to attend tutoring at KHS or their college. Receiving a “D” places the student on academic probation; failing a course or dropping below a 2.5 GPA requires a return to KHS the following semester. Students may not drop or change courses without district approval, as this could jeopardize program eligibility.
These expectations are part of the agreement signed by students and families when joining the program. Failure to meet requirements may result in dismissal from Dual Enrollment and a return to KHS courses.
KCC Early College and ONU Early Scholars offer students the chance to earn college credit while completing high school, gaining advanced coursework, discounted tuition, and a head start on college. However, students must meet GPA, testing, and attendance requirements, follow both high school and college policies, and commit to staying in good standing.
